3 Ways to Love Yourself As A Mother
The demands of being a mom make it easy to not prioritize yourself. The constant physical, mental and emotional demands that require your attention can seem to takeover the need to love yourself. So how then do we love ourselves as moms? Here are 3 ways to love yourself as a mother:
Be Honest with God About Your Feelings - God wants to hear how you feel. God can handle ALL of your emotions. Not enjoying motherhood at the moment? Tell God. Not feeling valued as a mother? Tell God. Feeling scared in this current season? Tell God. Unlike people, God doesn’t judge us for the feelings and emotions we have, instead He uses them as invitations to meet us where we are and on the level we’re on. We can go to God knowing that we can never overwhelm Him with our emotions.
Choose to Practice Self-Compassion - There will be times you don’t feel like being kind to yourself, but that doesn’t mean you’re not deserving of receiving kindness. There will be times you may not feel like giving yourself grace, but give yourself the gift of grace anyway. There will may be moments you feel like you’re fighting to like who you are, in those moments choose to like who you are and offer yourself compassion. Self-compassion is a choice, and I pray you know that you are worth receiving compassion. Being a mother is tough; choose to be kind to yourself.
Accept Who You Are Right Now - The practice of accepting who you are right now isn’t permission to settle in areas you have opportunities to grow. Practicing self-acceptance means that we stop living in the “what ifs” and start living in contentment. And when we live in contentment, we let God fill the gaps instead of trying to fill them ourselves. Self-Acceptance lifts the burden of perfection. Perfection is a burden we were never meant to carry, that’s why Jesus was born, died for us and was resurrected from the grave. Jesus took away the burden of perfection from us.
I pray these tips inspire you to love yourself. You are a daughter of The King. You are deserving of a non judgmental relationship with God, self-kindness and all that contentment has to offer.
